Sheltrown continues to push 5% biodiesel bill
LANSING, MI- This week, the American Trucking Association's Board of Directors unanimously endorsed the use of biodiesel as a way to help shape a strong energy plan.
"ATA is proud to endorse the use of biodiesel in blends up to 5%," said Rich Moskowitz, ATA regulatory affairs counsel.
This resolution coincides with State Representative Joel Sheltrown's push for a 5% biodiesel fuel bill for Michigan. Representative Sheltrown is the primary sponsor on the bill that would help to extend the supply of diesel fuel which is important to the trucking industry.
"This would be a win-win situation for all parties involved. Consumers, farmers, and the trucking industry will all benefit from the incorporation of biodiesel fuel use," said Sheltrown.
Biodiesel is a cleaner burning fuel that can be made from any fat or vegetable oil, such as soybean oil, and works in any diesel engine. Biodiesel can be blended with petroleum diesel at any level.
"Promoting B5 (5% biodiesel fuel blend) is a step in the right direction," Moskowitz said in later comments.
The renewable fuel's momentum within the trucking industry is gaining strength as growing numbers of truckers fill their rigs with biodiesel blends. The trucking industry is turning to biodiesel as an American-made fuel with the added benefits of helping to support American farmers and protecting the environment.
