Transportation Grants on the Way to Roscommon County
LANSING - State Rep. Joel Sheltrown (D-West Branch) today announced that Roscommon County will receive combined federal and state transportation grants of $375,000 to resurface two stretches of roads in the Houghton Lake area.
"These grants are part of an overall ongoing effort to deliver more transportation funding to smaller communities across our state," Sheltrown said. "This is a critical component of our work to improve our transportation system and the quality of life and economic development of our region."
The grants are part of a Michigan Department of Transportation program designated for road improvements and transit projects in small urban areas with a population base of 5,000 to 50,000 residents. To be eligible for funding, projects must be within the federal aid urban area boundary, located on the federal-aid highway system, and consistent with regional land use and development plans.
The Roscommon County projects, slated to begin in 2006, will resurface a two-mile stretch of County Road 401 in Denton Township and a 2.67-mile section of County Road 300 in Lake Township.
"These projects are further examples of the great strides we're making in Lansing to ensure that we get our fair share of state dollars," Sheltrown said.
The combined budget for the projects is $471,962, including $375,000 in federal and state funds and $96,962 in local funding.
