LANSING – State Rep. Joel Sheltrown (D-West Branch) today said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm is expected to focus on strengthening education and creating jobs in Michigan in her State of the State address Wednesday night.
"Our residents in northern Michigan need good-paying jobs, and our Governor is devoted to creating the jobs of the future in our state – beginning today," Sheltrown said. "By investing in our state, Governor Granholm is investing in our residents and our future. Michigan is ready and willing to move forward into the 21st Century, and the Governor is working hard to take us there."
Sheltrown said the Governor is expected to expand on her plan to create high-tech, high-growth jobs in Michigan, which has been hammered by layoffs and outsourcing since 2000. Last year, Granholm crafted a plan to devote $2 billion – without raising taxes or creating new debt – to create jobs in high-tech automotive, biomedical sciences, alternative fuels and homeland security that cannot be outsourced.
Rep. Sheltrown will be available for media interviews before and after the Governor's speech.
